Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Statement

At iPlume Writing Inc., we believe that embracing diversity, promoting equity, and fostering inclusion are fundamental to our success as a business and the success of our clients. Our commitment to DEI is woven into every aspect of our work, from our internal culture to the services we provide. We actively seek to create a space where all individuals, regardless of their background or identity, feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute to their fullest potential.

Diversity

We celebrate the richness of diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences within our team and our client relationships. We believe that diversity drives innovation and creativity, allowing us to offer unique and tailored solutions that meet the needs of a wide array of organizations and communities.

Our commitment to diversity extends to:

  • Hiring practices that prioritize diversity in terms of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, ability, and more.
  • Actively seeking partnerships with clients, vendors, and collaborators who share our values of inclusion and equity.
  • Providing a platform for underrepresented voices in the projects we support, ensuring that diversity is not just represented but actively championed.

At iPlume Writing Inc., we are committed to creating an equitable environment by addressing systemic inequalities and providing meaningful opportunities for marginalized communities.

Our equity efforts include:

  • Ensuring that our services are accessible to organizations and businesses of all sizes, particularly those led by Black, Indigenous, and other underrepresented groups.

Inclusion

Inclusion is about creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, valued, and able to participate fully. At iPlume Writing Inc., we strive to build an inclusive workplace culture where each team member and client feels heard and respected. Land Acknowledgement

At iPlume Writing Inc., we acknowledge and express deep appreciation for the land upon which we live and work in Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia.

For centuries, this area was part of the traditional territory of the Mi’kmaq people, who used these lands and waters for hunting, travel, and seasonal encampments, particularly around Pockwock Lake and the Bedford Basin. Today, Hammonds Plains is located within Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq, and is associated with Wasoqopa’q First Nation, one of the thirteen Mi’kmaq First Nations in Nova Scotia.

The Mi’kmaq have lived on these lands for thousands of years and continue to live here today. Mi’kma’ki is governed by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship, first signed in 1725 between the Mi’kmaq, the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), and the British Crown. These treaties did not involve the surrender of land or resources but instead established ongoing relationships based on peace, mutual respect, and coexistence.

In the Mi’kmaw language, Halifax is known as Kjipuktuk (pronounced che-book-took), meaning “Great Harbour.” We are honoured to live, work, and learn in this place and remain committed to continued reflection, relationship-building, and respectful engagement with Indigenous peoples.

We also acknowledge that African Nova Scotians have lived on and stewarded this land for more than 400 years. Many African Nova Scotian communities were established by formerly enslaved people, Black Loyalists, Jamaican Maroons, and Black Refugees, and their descendants continue to contribute deeply to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of this province. We recognize the enduring presence, resilience, and contributions of African Nova Scotian communities, as well as the historic and ongoing impacts of systemic racism and displacement.

As a Nova Scotia–based business, iPlume Writing Inc. is committed to learning, accountability, and actions that support equity, reconciliation, and respectful relationships with both Indigenous and African Nova Scotian communities.

We also invite others to reflect on the land where they reside and work. Members of the iPlume Writing team are located in:

  • Hammonds Plains and Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Mi’kma’ki
  • Chilliwack, S’ólh Téméxw, Stó:lō territory
  • Montreal, Tiohtià:ke, Kanien’kehà:ka territory

To learn more, we encourage you to:
